Five Florida state lawmakers who were denied access to a new immigration detention center in the Everglades are suing Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Five Florida Democratic lawmakers are suing Gov. DeSantis over being denied entry into the immigration detention facility dubbed “Alligator Alcatraz.” State Sen. Shevrin Jones (D-FL) joins Alex Witt to detail complaints of conditions received by detainees.

Five Democratic Florida lawmakers filed a lawsuit Thursday against Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and the Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM), alleging they were unlawfully blocked from conducting an unannounced inspection of the Alligator Alcatraz immigrant detention facility in the Everglades.

DarkSky International in 2016 designated Florida’s Big Cypress National Preserve as the nation’s first preserve to achieve “dark sky” status.

Local 10 News heard from Florida lawmakers Friday who are suing the state for access to the “Alligator Alcatraz” migrant detention facility, just hours before they join fellow Democrats and Republicans on a tour of the controversial center.

"We all want to make America great again, but you're not going to make America great by making America mean," Wenski said.
